Adoption Diary Week 37

We are now eight months on into our "family" life and the past few months have been very busy with birthdays, birthday parties, holidays and most importantly we have been to court to legally adopt Katy and Ben.

Court day was really nice, I was so nervous and the children so excited!!! We had told them that we were going to see the judge who would make us a "forever family".

The court appointment was so informal and relaxed, we had a chat, saw the judge sign the form and then the children were given some presents. We took lots of photographs and then went out to lunch with our family and the children were given even more presents!!!!!

Another important day was when we met Katy and Ben's birth mum, I was even more nervous for this meeting and felt very emotional, I don't know what I expected from this meeting but I was surprised to find myself thinking "I like her" from a minute or two after we had been introduced.

I don't think I had expected to either like or dislike her really but I just warmed to her so much. She was such a kind person, very friendly and just really warm, she obviously wanted the children to be happy with us and I felt very humbled by her strong and positive attitude and approach.

I can't imagine the pain she had been through losing her children and yet she was being so positive about their relationship with Harry and I.

Anyway, I hope that she felt reassured after the meeting, I certainly found it very comforting, Harry and I have always been very keen to encourage the children to think of and to remember their birth parents, we have tried to integrate their past and their future but now I can talk even more warmly of their birth mum.

So, the future, the next important date for us is the children's christening, another lovely day to look forward to and even more presents! And then our first Christmas together, we have booked a day out seeing Santa and a show and I can't wait to wake up Christmas morning and see the look on Katy and Ben's face when they see their presents.

And then soon it will be the anniversary of when they moved to live with us, I am looking forward to that to be able to celebrate a year as a family!!

I will keep updating my diary with any news and would like to thank you for reading about our journey and wish everyone good luck in the future.

Ellen
