News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on July 29, 2005 Adoption Diary Week 34 Katy and Ben still seem very happy with Harry and I. I personally feel much better and more relaxed now because I feel I know my children so much better and we are feeling like a family, more comfortable and more natural. We sent the letter to their birth mum and she responded very positively to it as she decided that she wanted to meet Harry and I. We know it will be a hard meeting and I for one will be really nervous but we both want to do it as it is important for the children. Apparently social services make sure that the time spent together is very structured and talk to the mum beforehand to make sure inappropriate questions are not asked. We are hoping to have Katy and Ben's life story books through by the end of September, I do hope so as I think it will be invaluable for them to have the books to look through and to help them to make sense of the last few years. I am sure that it must be very confusing for them at the moment. We have placed our legal application to adopt and hope that will be set very soon so we can all become a 'proper' family. Once the children are officially 'ours' we are thinking about having them either 'christened' or a 'humanist ceremony', we can't decide which. We have given both children an additional middle name which is a 'family' name and think they will really like to have 'god parents' (or 'guide parents' if a humanist celebration) and will love all the presents!!!!!!!!!! Well, we booked our week away and I am really looking forward to it, our first family holiday. We are going to spend a week in a big (deluxe!) caravan; Katy and Ben are excited already!!!!!!!! So, all in all everything is going very, very well so far, I know from other adopters that there is a settling in period / honeymoon period and it can last different lengths of time dependant on the children.
