The stunning actress Jessica Simpson has said she wants to adopt a child orphaned by the Asian tsunami disaster.

The singer-turned-actress, who also starred in her own reality TV show Newlyweds, has claimed she tried to adopt a child from a Mexican orphanage when she was just 16.

Now the 25-year-old says she and husband Nick Lachey plan to adopt "within the next 12 months".
