News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on April 12, 2005 Adoption Diary Week 31 Well, introductions have now taken place and we are the proud 'forever' parents of Katy and Ben. The first day of the introductions we went to the foster carer's house, we walked in the door and Katy said 'it's our Mummy', Harry and I filled up. The children seemed to feel comfortable with us straight away, sitting on our knees and asking us about their new house and new pets. We went through the 'family introductions' book with them and talked about each room. They were of course particularly interested in their new bedrooms and couldn't wait to see them. Their foster mum and dad were really lovely people, I felt for them having to open up their home to two strangers and see the children they had cared for such a long time moving to a new home. Must have been very hard for them. The next day we were able to take Katy and Ben out to the park, it was lovely to spend some time with them. They were so funny, they loved the park and especially the ice-cream!!!!!! Each day during 'intros' we spent more time with Katy and Ben, everything went so well that we were allowed to bring them to see their new home much earlier than expected. They were so excited, we had wrapped up lots of presents for them and they were running round opening things and trying them on. The present wrapping was a good idea (and recommended in a book called 'Adopted Children Talking') but I think we may have gone a bit over the top resulting in two hyper children who actually barely glanced at quite a few of their things after a while. Would definitely organise that better if I were doing it again!!!!!!!!!!!! The last few days of 'intros' we started to bring back toys and clothes that belonged to Katy and Ben, there were lots of cuddly toys and games that their 'mummy Jane' had bought for them. So their old and new toys have come together in their new bedrooms and it has given them a cosy and lived in feel. Katy and Ben seem to have adapted really well and it is incredible to think we have known them for such a short spell of time. Next time I write they will have moved in and I will be able to tell you all about our first few days of being a 'forever' family. Ellen x
