News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on January 27, 2004 Diary of an adopter Week 7 What a dismal month January is, I think the only thing worse than waiting is waiting in such bleak, dank, dark days, as you can probably tell I am definitely more of a summer person. I don't have very much to tell you this week, Patrick looked into the sibling group from a different local authority to ours, but unfortunately it was not to be as a local match had already been found. We also contacted some of the Social Workers about the children from 'Be My Parent', it took me some time to track down the Social Workers, when I did I found that many of them had stopped taking details as they had so many expressions of interest already. This is wonderful from the children's perspective and I am delighted that 'Be My Parent' is so popular but of course I felt very disappointed for us. Our F form has been sent with regard to one child but I don't feel very positive about it as we live hours away from the local authority and I know that they would sooner (understandably) have a family that are more local. Patrick came to visit us just after Christmas to explain about the next stage of the process, he outlined the features of interim and full care orders and how they led to the 'freed for adoption' status. We asked him (of course!) whether there might be any children that we would be suitable for, coming up in the near future. He explained to us that currently it is very quiet, so we have to be patient for a while longer ...it's so hard !!!!! To try and keep myself positive I have bought stacks of things for our children, lots of gorgeous books, every craft item possible (coloured pegs, coloured feathers, corrugated card, coloured card .you name it!!!!). Last weekend I bought bath toys, so cute!!! They have pretend fish and an octopus and a rod and net for fishing in the bath (£6 from M & S - quite a bargain!!!!). Last night I went to M & S again and got two lovely children's CDs, one is all the Disney songs and the other is called 'I watch you sleeping'. It is, to quote, "a selection of calming songs for you and your children. No breaks interrupt this magical, musical journey. For bedtime, quiet time or simply relaxing". Oh bless, I can't wait, it has songs like 'you are my sunshine', 'halfway up the stairs', 'catch a falling star', 'Brahms lullaby', 'Hushabye Mountain'. I've not played it yet as I was filling up with tears just buying it!!!!!!! If you remember last time in my diary, I mentioned a family that had adopted two little girls and invited us to visit them and meet their children. We went last weekend and it was so lovely to see them. We only met one of the little girls (the other was on a sleepover) and she showed me her 'introduction to her new mum and dad book', her life book and the introductory video. She was adorable, the whole family was just so lovely and so happy and it was just heart warming to see. Well, that's all my news, hopefully I will have some better things to tell you next time and if not at least we will be nearer to spring!!!!!!!!!!!!
