News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on February 24, 2004 Diary of an adopter Week 9 My PC is working again and I am back online (what a relief)!!!!!!! Since our last diary Patrick has visited us to sign us up for the national register, we should be eligible for this in about 2 months but at least the forms have been signed in preparation. Harry and I are also having adoption training this week and next week. The training is designed to enhance the original preparation that we did and will include around 10 other couples. I am hoping we will know some of the group from our original course, it will be lovely to catch up with people and see how their lives have changed from a year or so ago. We also have our support group next week (I think I mentioned this to you a few diaries ago), the weeks since we last met for this have flown by. I am hoping that the couple who were at the last group will be there again with some pictures of their two children. And, I'm attending even more training next week!!!! We received a letter from our local authority (a few weeks ago), asking for adopters who would be willing to accompany social workers on initial visits to individuals who have expressed an interest in adopting. I have always felt that I would like to be able to give as much support as possible to anyone who is interested in adopting, I have personally found talking to friends of friends that have adopted invaluable. So, hopefully I can help others by explaining about how Harry and I found the process and also by being able to really identify with and also allay their worries or fears. I am trying to think if I have bought any more toys and books these past 2 weeks!!! I'm sure I must have!!! Oh yes, I bought a lovely children's book about Valentine's Day and a cook book with lots of ideas for meals for little ones!!!!!!! Well, I think that is all my news, next time I will be able to tell you all about the training courses!!!!!!
