News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on June 29, 2004 Diary of an adopter - week 17 Well, its been another quiet couple of weeks with no news and our holiday already feels like it is a lifetime away!!!! So, what have I been up to?? Not a lot really! I have bought yet more and more books. books galore in fact! Some for me to read and lots for the children to read. I've bought one about meals for babies/toddlers and children, it's really interesting as it tells you all about the amount that children should eat and the right nutritional balance for each age (it does scare me just reading it - will I get it all right !!!). The other book covers every childhood illness you can think of, what to look for, treatment, symptoms. never let it be said I'm not preparing myself!!! The children's books I've chosen are just lovely, I was nearly in tears reading them in the shop, such sweet stories. I have also started a letter to our children for when they are older and want to know how we came to adopt them. It explains our feelings, hopes, dreams and how excited we are about adopting and how much we want to meet them, take care of them and love them. It also hopefully helps them to understand that though we will be their forever family they have another family too who are very important in their lives and that we respect this and always want them to feel comfortable talking about their birth mum and dad. It feels very important to us that our children feel that their birth family are a part of their whole family and we want them to understand that. I am going to continue to write this letter for a while as I think that one day it will be a really special record of how we feel that will hopefully help and support them. Well, that's all for this week, no doubt I'll have lots of new books to tell you about next week!!!!!!!!!
