News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on June 15, 2004 Diary of an adopter - week 16 Back from our hols, feeling refreshed and revitalised and raring to become parents !!!! Our break was lovely and just the medicine we needed to help cheer us up a bit. We brought back three little wooden napkin rings, one with Pinocchio and two with cute cats, to give our children one day. I wanted to have something from the holiday to look back at one day and remind me of the time just before we became parents. Still no news about any little ones, the holiday has helped pass the time but I know even with lots of events and nice weather the summer will feel like a long one. maybe that's a good thing as the winter always seems to loom up so fast !!!!! We did go to our 'support group' the other day, there were quite a few at it this time and it was nice to meet other adopters. I did find it hard though as we were the only couple there who were waiting, the others had all been parents for some time or had been recently matched and just met their son or daughter. It was lovely to see everyone's photos and hear all their news but they were so excited and just glowing with happiness and chattering away about their little ones and I must admit I felt a bit left out of it all. I'm reading a book at the moment to help to pass the time and to feel connected to motherhood. It has lots of information in it about children aged from 0 to about seven, it gives you tips about feeding, dealing with nightmares, temper tantrums and just about everything you might need to know. It's really helpful but I do feel a bit like I'm studying for an exam, I'm trying so hard to remember everything!!!!!!! Well, I'm off to potter in the sunshine and read my book!!!!
