Children benefit as charity raises cash

Kelly Gribble

Youngsters at an Aberdeen respite centre are set to benefit from a £1,300 donation.

The Khyber Pass Association (KPA), which raises funds for disadvantaged children, has donated the money to Archway.

It will help provide a piece of sensory equipment to allow the children to experience sound and movement at the Westburn Road centre.

Archway offers respite, shared and permanent care to more than 220 people throughout the north-east at five community-based units.

Archway fund-raising co-ordinator Janine Davies said: "We are delighted. We are a small local charity and we rely on support for most of our fund-raising. This has made a real difference for us."

Over the past 22 years the KPA has raised more than £60,000 and made donations to dozens of organisations.

The money has been raised in a variety of ways, including discos, raffles, race nights and sweepstakes.

Secretary Dennis Black said: "The KPA are delighted to be donating the money for this equipment to Archway to help them in the great work they do.

"This takes our total donations in recent years over the £60,000 mark.

"Every penny raised has gone to help children in the Aberdeen area.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us over the years in whatever way, no matter how small, to raise the funds.

"We have no administration costs whatsoever and are consequently very proud of the fact that every single penny raised goes directly to the children."
