Diary of an adopter - page two of two

I just felt absolutely dreadful for Jamie, particularly as he loves looking at photographs and we have them of our friends and families children when they were babies and have just this one very poor photograph of him.

Also, the presentation of the life story book just looked like it had been done in a rush with handwritten bits which I found hard to read, and it just wasn't what I'd expected. I could have cried! It's certainly not in a format which I'd feel happy showing to Jamie without doing some work on it first - there's even a picture of us and underneath is says "This is Tim and Melanie" which we're not to him - we're mummy and daddy!

Anyway, our social worker Susan wants to look at it when she next visits, so after she's seen it I'm going to do some work on it myself and get it into a bit of a better state.

We've also got to shortly look at doing our first letterbox contact letters. His social worker is going to help us with the first ones we have to do, then we'll be pretty much on our own. I've drafted something very simple out so at least we're a little prepared for when she visits to go through it. I'm not all that bothered about producing the letters - it's the ones we might get back that I'm more concerned about!

On a lighter note, we recently went to a wedding party for some friends who'd recently married overseas (we'd originally planned to take a holiday and attend the wedding, but I'm afraid Jamie's arrival put a stop to that one!)

We had an absolutely super time and I caught up with some old work colleagues I'd not seen in a while. The wife of one colleague told me that if she'd not known Jamie was adopted, she would have never have known. She said that she thought he actually looked like us and we all looked so comfortable together.

I was so touched to hear that - it was such a nice thing to say. Another friend said that she was really jealous of me - I did say that she probably wouldn't say that if she could see Jamie having a tantrum, but it was weird to hear. As the party was in the evening, Jamie had had a sleep during the day, so managed to keep quite active until around 11pm. He was dancing around and loved taking photographs with the single-use camera on our table - our poor friends will get one set of photographs full of images of streamers, the floor, and Jamie's plate of food from the buffet!

We've not heard back from the court yet, but we now know that all the social workers reports have been written and submitted so its just a matter of time now. I must admit we're really excited about the court day and Jamie is too!

We want to mark his legal adoption in some way, but will probably do this some time later and have a nice party to invite everyone to. I must make a mental note to go on a diet soon - I'm sure that the court date will creep up on us and I won't have a thing to wear! No change there then!

Our week's caravan holiday is looming on the horizon and Tim is taking two weeks off, so it will be lovely for us to have some quality time together as a family. I must admit I'm really excited about it, but Jamie made us laugh recently when he saw a horse-box and thought it was going to be like the caravan we're going to stay in - I do hope not!
