News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on October 07, 2003 Diary of an adopter Week 24 diary Well we've just returned from an absolutely fantastic week's holiday with Jamie, and are now enjoying a week all together at home as Tim has another week off work. The holiday was so much fun. Mind you, I didn't think we'd be able to get everything in the car and poor Jamie shared the back seat not only with his trusty Winnie the Pooh, but also a box full of food, our coats and a bag of shoes and wellies! We went to one of those Haven holiday sites on the South Coast and stayed in a caravan. I must admit that I wasn't all that impressed with the site (the view of the local landfill site with flocks of screeching seagulls swooping around it greeting you every morning was hardly conducive to a good holiday atmosphere), but we weren't going to let a little thing like that spoil our first real holiday together. Once we'd got the keys to the caravan, Jamie insisted on opening every door and cupboard and going "Ooooh" at the contents. We wondered whether he would perhaps be far too excited to go to sleep, but we didn't have one problem with him going to sleep that week, even though we were right outside his door watching TV some evenings. We were lucky to have really good weather, so got out and about most days and I think that the fresh sea air played some part in Jamie's tiredness come bedtime. We did all the things we'd really wanted to do - building sandcastles, hunting for shells, throwing pebbles in the sea, going into arcades and shovelling loads of 2p pieces into the amusements! Jamie was absolutely fascinated with piers, so wherever there was one, we had to go and walk on it. I think he couldn't quite get over the fact that we were standing right above the sea, and he would constantly get down on his hands and knees to look through the planks of wood and watch the sea below, much to the amusement of passers by! The part of the south coast we went to is frequented mostly by retired folks, so people were constantly "ooohing" and "aaahing" at Jamie, because he is quite a cutie. I lost count of the number of times that people ruffled his hair! Mind you, he takes it all in his stride. On the way home from holiday, we spent a day with my brother and his girlfriend in London. As part of Tim's 40th birthday present, I had bought us all tickets to go and see West Ham play - yes, Tim is a glutton for punishment supporting them! Jamie was absolutely thrilled, and his little face when the team came out and everyone was cheering, was an absolute picture. When West Ham scored (yes, they actually scored), he was punching the air and shouting! A lady in front of us kept shouting "Come on West Ham" so Jamie kept copying her and once she turned round and said "That's it love, you tell 'em!" Click here for page two of the diary
