News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on November 25, 2003 Diary of an adopter WEEK 3 Well, following the wonderful news that we were approved, things have gone really quiet. We have spoken to Patrick but unfortunately he wasn't able to tell us anything more. It's a case of being patient and as my friends and family know this would not be listed as one of my personal qualities ! Harry, on the other hand is infuriatingly calm and much better able to cope with the waiting than I am, bless him. It's probably just as well, if the two of us were like cats on a hot tin roof we would drive each other mad! Since the panel we've had some wonderful cards from our family and friends, really heartfelt and I've been so touched by everyone's support and how happy they are for us. I've had some really sweet presents too, a cuddly zebra, some gorgeous books and a big pooh bear and book to go with it. I've also treated myself to some bits and pieces but I daren't go too mad until we know more about our children and what they like. I have everything you could possibly need though, for a Halloween party next year !!!! I've been watching the Separated at Birth programmes these past few weeks. I must admit my feelings about them have been mixed. I've felt quite a range of emotions, moved to tears in some parts but also a bit hurt in others as I've felt that the adopted parents love for their children hasn't been expressed as much as it should have been. I also felt the programme focused very much on the blood bond and didn't convey that family and parenting is about unconditional love and care, being there for each other no matter what is happening, carrying a baby and DNA are a very small part of being a parent. Moving onto a brighter subject, Christmas is looming and hopefully this will be the last one ever without our family, I keep thinking about this and it cheers me up no end, the new year will bring the best most wonderful present Harry and I could ever hope for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
