News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on September 13, 2002 Improving services for minorities A week of events is to be held in Burton to improve services to ethnic minorities. Staffordshire County Council social services will be running the events between Monday, September 23 and Friday, September 27. Councillor Ken Bullock, leader for social services, said: "The aim is for members of ethnic minority communities to talk to us so we can discuss their needs." The events will give people the opportunity to discuss services including fostering and adoption, benefits advice and meals on wheels. Translators will be available. Events for men will take place on Monday, September 23 at the Pakistani Centre, Uxbridge Street, and on Wednesday, September 25 at the Princess Resource Centre, Princess Street. Events for women will take place on Tuesday, September 24 at the Pakistani Centre and Thursday, September 26 at the Princess Resource Centre. There will also be a mixed event on Friday, September 27 at the Burton Caribbean Association, Uxbridge Street. All events will run from 10.30am until 2.30pm. Contact Karen Palmer on 01785 276929.
