News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on September 10, 2002 Training for foster carers earns recognition Books and videos to help foster carers have earned social services staff a nomination for a national award. A series of practical work books has been pioneered by members of Lincolnshire's foster carer training strategy group to guide new carers. Containing practical information and exercises, they were developed because carers had difficulty travelling across the county for training. The team has now been shortlisted for a Pavilion Innovation in Training Award for their work. They will attend a lunch presentation at the House of Lords in London in October. Thyra Campling, from Horncastle, who has fostered children for 39 years, said the books were a real benefit. "As a foster carer you never stop learning and these work books will provide a good foundation," she said. "I wish I'd had something like this when I first started." Two short videos have also been produced, with the help of media students at Franklin College, Grimsby, to complement the books.
