News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on September 3, 2002 Adoption couple in theatre row A quiz show involving Judith and Alan Kilshaw is causing a storm among theatre-goers. The couple who have had a torrid 18 months since it was revealed they had "bought" American twins over the Internet, have set up a question and answer session at a Chester theatre later this month. The couple from Westminister Park, Chester are to take part in the show dubbed Meet the Kilshaws on September 27. They believe it is a chance to clear their names, saying they have been the targets of a Government conspiracy and mass media manipulation. But the people in the town have blasted the Gateway's decision to put on the show which costs £8 to attend, accusing the couple of cashing in on the saga. The couple have recently been forced to sell and move to Chester from their Flintshire farmhouse after solicitor Alan Kilshaw, was struck off for illegally using funds to balance his overdraft. A 40-year-old mother-of-two from Chester, who did not wish to be named, said: "I am annoyed the Gateway are allowing this to go ahead. "It sounds like something you would see on a Jerry Springer chat show, not a prestigious theatre." Mrs Kilshaw, 48, said: "I would urge these people who condemn us to come to the show and hear what we have to say. "We never had anything but the best interest of those two girls at heart and they were loved and well-cared for when they were with us. "Because of a public hate campaign my husband and I can't find employment and my children are bulliedf and beaten up. "This is an attempt to put the record straight." Jasmine Hendry, chief executive of the Gateway, said: "We have ceased to be traditional production theatre and now put on a wide variety of shows. "We had a free evening when they enquired and we will be treating the show as the same as any other." (Parts of this article appear courtesy of the Manchester Evening News)
