News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on October 28, 2002 Project to help young children A project to give young children in southern Derbyshire a better start in life has been launched. The Government-funded Sure Start programme has been set up in Woodville to promote the physical, intellectual and social development of children up to four years old. The scheme aims to provide new and improved community services and support the way existing services are provided. New projects already launched by Sure Start, which is based at Woodville Neighbourhood Nursery, Blacksmith's Lane, include a weekly breast feeding support group and a monthly parents' forum. A course called Living with Children has started to help parents with childcare, while providing support and friendship. A toy library will open next month. Councillor John Powell, deputy leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: "Sure Start is an important project that will improve the quality of life for families and help give children in Woodville the best possible start in life."
