The city's director of social services Jan Didrichsen has called for more people to consider adopting a child.

The appeal was made to coincide with National Adoption Week.

The nationwide campaign, organised by the British Association for Adoption and Fostering, aims to find families for 5,000 children waiting to be adopted.

Hull Social Services is particularly interested in finding adoptive parents for young children and sibling groups who have had a traumatic start in life.

Mr Didrichsen said: "Adoption is a lifelong commitment and can be challenging, but it is also one of the most rewarding things you can do."
