Care for a young person

A Hull charity running a supported accommodation scheme for young people - issued a plea for more carers yesterday.

The Beverley Road-based organisation is looking for people who can offer a young person, aged 16 to 19, a safe and supportive home on a long or short-term basis.

Carers are expected to provide a positive role model.

It is hoped that, because the young people Humbercare support are so varied, volunteers will come forward from a variety of backgrounds.

Some carers have families, but organisers say some youngsters get on better with a single person, either male or female.

Carers are provided with a full induction and training package, regular one-to-one support and telephone advice, a weekly allowance and access to social workers and other support agencies.

Natalie Williams, of Humbercare, said: "Because most of our young people are in full-time education, training or a job, we can consider carers who work full-time."
