Three-star social services

North Lincolnshire Council's social services have been awarded a maximum three stars by independent inspectors.

The Social Services Inspectorate rank social services in every council. They grade the services provided between zero and three stars. The inspectors look at the services provided for families in difficulty; the protection of children at risk; helping older people live independently and supporting people with disabilities.

North Lincolnshire is the only unitary council in the country to get top marks. In total only 11 councils in the whole country have been awarded three stars. North Lincolnshire is also the only council in the Yorkshire and Humber region to reach this level.

The inspectors have moved the council's grade up from two stars to three because they have recognised continuous improvements in the delivery of both children and adults' services, with excellent prospects for the future.

In particular, the recent inspection of the management and use of information showed North Lincolnshire to be a progressive council in this field, using information in analysing need, managing performance, assessing activity and demonstrating outcomes for service users.

Coun John Waldron, Cabinet Member for social services, said: "I am delighted it has been recognised that the people of North Lincolnshire enjoy social services which are among the very best in the country. Social services provides a lifeline to vulnerable people in our community and the council's commitment to providing the highest quality of support to people who need help has paid off.

"This judgment is a great credit to staff in social services, who have all given their best to produce this result for the community. And we must not forget that the three star rating for the council's social services is an equal tribute to our partners in the rest of the council, in health, probation, the police and other agencies."
