News@www.adoption-net.co.uk Story published on November 15, 2002 Reward for folk with big hearts Nominations are now being sought for kind-hearted folk who deserve to win East Riding Council's annual chairman's award. Individuals or organisations who have made a real difference to their community could be up for an award for enhancing the social well-being of the East Riding. Foster carers, voluntary workers, carers or other service providers could fall into this category. Or, anyone who has started a recycling scheme, created a habitat for wildlife or helped reduce pollution or litter could win an enhancing the environment award. Businesses, new and established, which have created jobs within the community, invested heavily in their workforce or promoted innovative working practices can be nominated for an economy award. Built heritage awards will be given out for building schemes and projects that fit in with the surroundings, because of design or materials. The last awards will be presented to someone who has enhanced the image of the East Riding by promoting it as a place to live or work. The awards will be presented during a special ceremony by East Riding Council chairman, Cllr Rowan Blake-James on May 13 next year.
