City bids for cash to protect kids

Salford social services have put in a bid to the government for over £700,000 to help protect children from abuse and neglect.

The authority presented their plans last month to the Department of Health.

The scheme, Quality Protects In Salford, will involve educational, social and health staff members. They will aim to ensure that children are safe from the risk of abuse and neglect.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We want to ensure more stability for children in the care of the council. We will be working, wherever appropriate, towards fostering and adoption."
