News@www.adoption-net.co.uk This story published February 12, 2002 Love Is Not Enough? Adoption-net was recently sent a new video release, which focuses on one of the most contested issues in adoption. 'Love Is Not Enough' sets out to give its audience first hand experience of what it is like to be transracially adopted by showing interviews of adult transracial adoptees. One of our team here at Adoption-net watched the video and wrote this short review... Love Is Not Enough - Trans-racial Adoption Any adopted person may question where they came from at some point in their lives but what happens when a child is adopted into a family of a different race or ethnic background to their birth parents? This 30-minute video shows interviews with three adults who were all adopted into families of a different race to themselves and investigates the issues and feelings this raised with them as they were growing up. During the interviews all three discuss incidents from their past and how and why they went about finding out more about the culture of their birth parents. This video does not aim to give definitive answers about how trans-racial adoption works, or whether the situation is right or wrong, but rather looks at helping people become more informed about the issues involved. Perhaps an interview with the adoptive parents of a child from another race or ethnic background would have helped to make this video a more useful tool for those looking to adopt but as a starting point for finding out about trans-racial adoption Love Is Not Enough is an informative and sympathetically made factual video. Love Is Not Enough is produced for ATRAP, a registered charity run by and for transracially adopted and fostered people. The film, which runs for 30 minutes, can be purchased for £40.00 via mail order or on-line by clicking here. A percentage of each video sold goes to ATRAP.
