Baby Nicholas adopted

Just over a year ago, newborn baby Nicholas Christmas was found abandoned on a doorstep in the Bestwood Estate.

Now he has been adopted by the family who took him into foster care.

The baby boy, given his name by staff at the City Hospital, was found on January 2, 2001.

A couple spotted a young woman abandon the baby, who was wrapped in a fleece jacket, outside a house in Hucknall Road.
The 7lb 3oz child was just two hours old.

The couple alerted the owner of the house and an ambulance was called.

The baby did not suffer any ill effects, and was cared for by nurses in the Bonington Ward at the hospital. But, despite repeated police appeals for his mother to come forward, nobody ever claimed the baby boy.

Since he has now been legally adopted, even if his birth mother were to come forward now, she would have no legal rights over the baby.
