Keeping up with the Jones's in Derby

I was born, raised and married in the Derby area, although I now live in Gloucestershire.

For some time now, I have been conducting research into my family history. I've found that my grandfather arrived in Derby during the industrial revolution on the back of the railway industry. He worked at the Carriage and Wagon works and he had three brothers.

Two of them lived in Derby for a while and I recently discovered, through the 1901 census, that the third brother also lived in Derby. His name was William Jones and he lived at 5 Gilbert Terrace, Osmaston, not far from the Carriage and Wagon works.

His wife's name was Annie and they had two daughters, Daisy E D Jones, who was 14 in 1901, and Dorothy H G Jones, aged five in 1901. They also had an adopted son, Frederick Moulton, who was born at New Normanton, Derby, in 1893.

If they stayed in the Derby area, they could have sons and daughters who are still living there. I'd love to make contact with any of them. I would be very interested in what they have to say and I also have an interesting story to tell them.

My father died in 1964, but he told me that, when he married in 1910, someone offered to take him to Australia. He never went for various reasons and I never found out who it was who wanted to take him with them.

It could possibly have been one of his Derby relatives, in which case they won't see this appeal.

Thanks,
Peter Jones, Gloucestershire.
