Mum never forgot her child

In the early 1960s a 15-year-old girl who got pregnant was rarely able to keep her child. Sandi Brocklehurst fitted this description and, like countless women before her, gave up her child.

She was parted from her baby, went home and the subject was never mentioned again. But for Sandi, the subject was never closed.

"A birth mother never forgets and each and every day after that you wonder how the child is doing, where they are and if they are happy, birthdays and Christmas are the most painful times" said Sandi, aged 56, who lives in Somerset.

Then, 40 years later, she received the call she had been waiting for all her life and she has now been reunited with her daughter Jayne.
"I am so delighted with the outcome - no more wondering how she is. I can pick up the phone and ask her.
"We are slowly getting to know each other and the main thing that pleases me so much is that at least I know she has had a good family and a happy childhood."

She said various obstacles were placed in the way of people trying to track down their roots, including dodgy researchers who took their money without coming up with any results.
