Logo ideas sought from young artists

Calling all young artists: A new family support group wants your logo - in return for a free ticket to Pleasure Island.

Children up to the age of 14 are wanted to design a logo for family support group Kids Like Kane, to be launched on September 10 by the Mayor, Coun Ken Townsend, and North East Lincolnshire Council.

Kane Jewitt, of Cleethorpes, who had extreme behavioural problems, was 13 when he died at the edge of Skegness Boating Lake. The youngster had run away from social services after a court appearance.

His mother April set up Kids Like Kane (KLK) in his memory to provide back-up for families who have a child with behavioural difficulties.

A council spokesman said: "Often there is so much emphasis on the child, sometimes mums don't know where to go."

The design of the logo should be limited only by the artist's imagination.

April Jewitt said: "We wanted to involve families and children in shaping KLK from the start and as the logo will be the public face of the support group, we wanted children to give KLK its identity."

The council is running the competition in partnership with the Grimsby Telegraph. The closing date for all entries is Friday, September 6.

All entries should be sent to: Tim Jays, Grimsby Telegraph, 80 Cleethorpe Road, Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, DN31 3EH.
