Need advice along the way?

Here we have answered another one of your adoption questions, this time concerning the people in the know who can advise you on the process along the way.

Question:

Are their any contacts for people who are currently going through the adoption process?

Our family and friends have been great but try as they might they can't understand. Is there such a thing as a chatroom for like minded people?

We don't know anyone who's adopted before and therefore have no comparison. If you've heard of anything could you let us know?

Many thanks, Samantha Law

Answer:

Hi and thanks for your question

The answer is an easy one! I actually run an adoption group, called movin towards adoption.

It was originally set up to help people moving on from infertility treatment and on to adoption, but the demand is such that is now a group for anyone going through the adoption assessment.

There are members who are just thinking about adoption and others, like myself, who have completed the assessment and now have adopted children.

The range of experiences is broad so if you have any question, one of us in the group is sure to be able to answer it.

Matt Bailey, editor of Adoption-net is also a member, so he comes in very useful sometimes when a tricky question arises!

There is actually a link for the group on the home page of Adoption-net.

If you scroll down to the right and look for Need Support? you can click on that link and it will take you to the home page, you then just click on Join This Group and I will approve you and that's it!

You have to be a member of Yahoo though, with a Yahoo ID, so if you sign up for that first it will make it alot easier for you.

If you have any problems, please get back to me, with your email address ( it will not be printed on this site) and I will send you an invitation to join direct.

Best wishes, Jan Young - freelance writer for Adoption-net.
