Couple adopt grand-daughters after cult fears

A couple have adopted their three grandchildren and brought them from America to the UK after they feared the trio's parents would abduct them.

Philip and Linda Medland from North Cornwall, decided to act after officials from Oregon warned them the children were under threat from Mrs Medland's daughter Ruth Christine and husband Brian, who are members of an anarchist group.

The youngsters prior to coming to the UK were in the care of social workers because officials feared for their safety due to the extreme views of their parents.

Mrs Christine and Brian currently face kidnap charges in the US.

The Medland family believe their daughter has been "brainwashed" by members of the anarchist group, which opposes the Americian government.

This led them to ask the authorities to take the children into care.

The adoption procedures took eight months to complete before a state court found in favour of Mr and Mrs Medland.

The now have custody of Bethany, Lydia and Miriam who are six, five and three respectively.

The couple are now living with their grandchildren at their farm in Launceston, North Cornwall.
