Less than year after Neath and Port Talbot Council introduced hefty new allowances the county has voted for yet more money for caregivers. Those who care for the youngest children will see the biggest rise. The allowance for children aged up to four years rises by more than £7 to £58.10 a week. While for 16 to 17-year-olds the rate jumps up from £93.94 to £95.13. The annual holiday payment ranges from 123.76 for the under fours to £247.66 for 16 to 17-year-olds. And birthday and special occasion allowances range from £61.88 to £123.83, the £100 Christmas present grant continues. Council officer Paula Grinter said: "There have been two other major developments as well. "We now have a 24-hour telephone helpline for carers who have a problem and we have a support worker who can help lend a hand when needed. "We are also considering other improvements for the future."
