News@www.adoption-net.co.uk This story published April 17, 2002 Charity video gives real insight into fostering and adopting children The children's charity Barnardo's have released a video to express the trials and tribulations of being a adoptive or foster parent. In the video 'People Like Us' the task of taking on somebody elses child is described as 'The hardest thing you will ever do... but the best!'. The 45 minute recording features real families talking candidly about their experiences, reflecting on both the difficulties and joys of taking a child into their family. It answers some of the most common questions people ask about adoption and fostering, and offers a taste of what it is like to adopt or foster through Barnardo's. A spokesperson for the charity said: "Adopting or fostering a child with complex need is not an easy option, but it can be a rewarding one. "Many of the children and young people who find new families through Barnardo's have emotional and behavioural problems caused by the traumas in the past. "Some have learning difficulties or physical impairments. "It takes a special sort of person to care for children who have had a difficult start to life and give them the chance of a brighter future." The video costs £6.99, to find out more information please e-mail: Barnardos
