Bolton has been named as one of the top six social services departments. The services that have been praised include areas such as caring for the elderly through to caring for children. One of the areas singled out was the children's services. The inspectors explained that the outstanding response to families, and the support they have given to families, has been demonstrated by the reduced number of children on the child protection register. Executive member for social services and health, Cllr Cliff Morris said he was delighted with such an excellent report. He added: "We help thousands of people living in the borough with their care needs. The review has identified that most people are served well and that service users are placed at the centre of decision making. "Staff are well supported and competent and this gives excellent prospects for improvement. The report confirms my view of the service."
