Barnardo's comes in top for adoption

BARNARDO'S Scotland has won an award for successfully placing Asian children with suitable adoptive families.

The charity's family placement service won the Community Care Award 2001 for its work on same-race placements for Asian children in Scotland.

The award was presented at the London Hilton in Park Lane.

Barnardo's will use its £4000 prize money to highlight the needs of black and Asian children through performing arts which include a staged event at the Edinburgh Mela, a multicultural event staged during the Edinburgh Festival.

It is hoped this will help recruit more adoptive parents from the Asian community in Scotland.
