MP's adoption Bill hope

Erewash MP Liz Blackman is hoping to win a place on a Parliamentary committee debating a new adoption Bill.

Ms Blackman has already called for greater standards of support and monitoring during the process of adoption.

During the second reading of the Adoption and Children Bill she asked for its recommend ations and changes in policy surrounding those involved in the adoption process to be strengthened and made more accountable.

She said: "In light of recent tragic incidents involving deaths of children we must ensure that good practice among the agencies on the ground is strengthened.
"The adoption process must ensure prospective adopters are effectively informed and inter viewed, that the quality of man agement is high and above all that the care of the child remains at the heart of all decisions."

Ms Blackman, who served on the Bill's select committee, is hoping to serve on the special standing committee where the Bill will be debated in full.
