Call for greater support and monitoring

Erewash MP Liz Blackman has called for greater standards of support and monitoring during adoption.

During the second reading of the Adoption and Children Bill last week, she appealed for the bill's recommendations regarding the support for those involved in the process of adoption to be improved.

She said: "The adoption process must ensure that prospective adopters are effectively informed and interviewed, that the quality of management is high and above all that the care of the child remains at the head of decisions."

The bill will be fully debated by a special standing committee later in the year.
