News@www.adoption-net.co.uk This story published May 31, 2001 Plea for more carers in Kent Kent County Council is looking for more foster carers and wants to encourage people who want to know more to use National Fostering Fortnight, which starts on June 4, as an opportunity to get in touch. Foster carers are needed for children in the short or longer term or to provide regular respite breaks over the weekend and during school holidays. Kent County Council provides professional supervision and training to support foster carers, as well as regular group meetings. Foster carers, who receive allowances, can also pursue an NVQ qualification in caring for children, can contact the council at any time for help and advice. Peter Gilroy, social services strategic director, said: "If you could give a child the helping hand they need to get through difficult periods in their life, we want to hear from you."
