Adoption-net is celebrating after being nominated for the "Best Niche Internet Site" in the Newspaper Society New Media Awards 2001.

It is competing for the title with three sports sites - pinkun.com, by Eastern Counties Newspapers; sportloco.com, by the Manchester Evening News; and yorkshireschoolsport.com by the Yorkshire Post.

Website owners NEP Midlands, has also been shortlisted for the prestigious "Special Award for Innovation in Digital Publishing."

It will go head-to-head in this category with Newsquest Digital Media and the www.thisisleeds.co.uk site, which is produced by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

All the winners wil be announced at an awards dinner in York on June 19.
