The Diary of an Adopter

Week 12 - The tension mounts

We have both had a very emotional week.

All sorts of emotions have been going round in both our heads for months now, and it has come out in the form of snapping at each other over silly little things really.

It's just so hard to handle. We need to be able to be strong and not to take it out on each other but I think it is only natural that sometimes it all gets too much to handle, and we have to let off steam. There is no one else to take it out on, so we take it out on each other.

We have both now calmed down and talked about the things that are worrying us both. Talking has helped get things into prospective. We have been keeping things in far too much instead of sharing them and talking things through with each other. We both realise this now.

So we have promised each other we will talk a lot more from now on. Things are hard enough to handle without bickering with each other, too.

We have had one bit of good news: the police check forms have come back to our social worker and we have passed those, so that is nice to know at least.

I still want to decorate the bedroom, but so far, I have resisted the urge. So, instead, I have started to decorate the hall.

Rob is building a patio in the back garden, so that keeps his mind off things for a while. And I am up to my armpits in wallpaper paste!

I have also been typing up some more of the form F, not much left to do now thank goodness.

Our social worker rang last week and she has been to interview our two referees. They are people we have known all our lives.

What the referees say about us is confidential. When we get to see the completed form F, before it gets presented to the panel, the referees section will have been removed, so we will never know what they said about us...unless, of course, I ask them nicely to tell me...

So things are moving quite fast really. So we are both back on track now. Things are being talked about more openly, and we both feel much happier now.

It's understandable that things will get on top of us now and again, after all, this is a stressful situation we are in. But things can only get better.
