News@www.adoption-net.co.uk This story published May 17, 2001 PCs donated to children in care Big-hearted local businesses and families have donated 16 computers to children in care following an appeals by Gloucestershire County Council. Children and young people living at Matlock House in Gloucester, Enderley House near Stroud, Parklands in Whitminster and Windrush in Cheltenham are among those who have already benefited from the computers. Focus, which provides education and day care for looked-after children who aren't attending school, has also received a computer. Young people and staff at Matlock House are delighted with their new computer. Staff member Steve Watkins said: "We're very grateful. This is gong to be a fantastic help with homework. We've now got two computers for the four young people, so they should be able to get on a computer within an hour rather than wait all night to do their homework." Social services' looked-after children officer Corinna Chartier said: "This is really excellent news for the young people and we're very grateful to everyone who has donated a computer so far. "If anyone is thinking of upgrading their computer we would still like them to consider donating their old one to children in care as it will make a real difference to their education." The council is aiming for all looked-after children and young people to have access to a computer in their foster home or children's home. If you have a computer you can donate, please contact Corinna Chartier at social services on 01452 427037.
