Recruitment drive hits the road

A recruitment drive for more foster carers in Surrey hits the road this month.

At any one time there are more than 800 children and young people in care in the county.

Annie MacIver, family placement services manager at Surrey County Council said: "Fostering is a tough but rewarding job and there are many vulnerable young people in Surrey who would benefit from the care and stability that a foster carer could bring into their lives.

"Becoming a foster carer could be one of the most important decisions that someone takes to help a child face the future with confidence."

Surrey Social Services is looking for individuals or partners who want to care for children on a short or longer term basis. Those intersted should be warm, resilient, enjoy a challenge and have a 'can do' attitude to life.

Applications are welcome from married or unmarried couples, single people whether heterosexual, lesbian or gay, people with or without children, people from all cultural backgrounds, and disabled people.

The council is promising training, support and "a generous financial package". For more information about fostering call 01483 756 523 or e-mail: fostering@surreycc.gov.uk or visit the council's website.
