News@www.adoption-net.co.uk This story published March 28, 2001 Lifting the lid on pupil exclusions A one-day conference will be held today presenting national research findings into the views and experiences of children and their families of school exclusions. More than 10,000 children are permanently excluded from schools in England each year and many more are suspended. But so far, much of the debate about exclusion has focused on apportioning blame and venting anger rather than trying to understand what is happening and why. The Children's Society conference - Outside, looking in - at Regent's College, London, seeks to redress the balance. It will reveal the findings of nationwide research and make recommendations aimed at minimising the impact of exclusion on children and young people.
