News@www.adoption-net.co.uk This story published June 29, 2001 Sex abuse victims awarded damages Thirteen victims of abuse at children's homes in north Wales,have been awarded damages ranging from £5,000 to £47,000. High court made the awards totalling £300,000 this week for physical and sexual abuse suffered between 1973 and 1991 by former residents of five homes run by Bryn Alyn Community, a private company that closed in 1997. The company's insurers Royal and Sun Alliance had contested each of the 14 claims. Mr Justice Connell found 13 out of 14 claimants had suffered negligence from the children's home. Former managing director of the company John Allen was jailed for six years in 1995 having been convicted of six offences of indecent assault on residents.
