Helpline set up after three charged

Glasgow City Council has set up a confidential helpline after three men were charged this week on suspicion of abusing children at two children's homes.

The alleged abuse, between 1974 and 1986, involves the Eversley Children's Home in Pollokshields, Glasgow, which closed in 1979, and Downcraig Children's Home, Castlemilk, Glasgow, which closed in 1988.

Police said the three men arrested were aged 43, 45 and 72. More than 120 people have claimed they were abused at the homes. Officers are appealing for former staff and residents who have not yet been traced to contact police on 0141 532 6754.

The council helpline is on 0141 771 8481.
