News@www.adoption-net.co.uk This story published July 7, 2001 Children's champion ready to step in on Gordonstoun saga The new Children's Commissioner for Wales has revealed he will hold Wrexham council to account if it stands by its decision to block the chance of a foster girl attending a top public school. Peter Clarke, who was appointed earlier this year, told The Times that he was prepared to use his powers to demand all documents relating to the case and force officials to explain their decision. He cannot force the north Wales council to change its mind, but he can make recommendations. Suzanne Turley, 16, from Wrexham, who has won a coveted scholorship to Gordonstoun but is being told by her local authority that she must go to the local college, has been taking full advantage of the all the media attention her case has raised. She is still waiting to hear the council's decision. Wrexham says that it is "listening carefully" to her appeals to let her take up a two-year drama course scholorship to the prestigious Scottish school which counts the Prince of Wales among its former pupils.
