News@www.adoption-net.co.uk This story published July 5, 2001 Ex-social worker charged A probation worker is to appear in court accused of sex offences against boys at a Derbyshire school dating back more than 20 years. Paul Wheater, 52, of Breedon Street, Long Eaton, has been summonsed on 12 counts of indecent assault following a year-long investigation by Derbyshire police. They relate to two boys under 16, who were at Risley Hall approved school in Risley, Derbyshire, in the mid-1970s. Wheater was a residential social worker for Nottinghamshire County Council at the time of the alleged assaults but is now employed by Derbyshire Probation Service. The probation service has now suspended Wheater following the police investigation. Wheatley will appear before Ilkeston magistrates on August 2. Risley Hall was an approved school for boys with educational and emotional difficulties from 1943 to 1985. It is now a hotel.
