Drop in children 'at risk'

The number of youngsters on a Teesside borough's Child Protection Register has gone down.

Figures presented to Redcar and Cleveland Council's Executive showed in the three months to the end of September, there were 110 children on the register - five fewer than the previous quarter.

The risk of neglect and physical injury were the two main categories for registration, accounting for 90 of the youngsters on the register.

Most children at risk are in the 0 to 4 years age group and three children on the register have yet to be born.

A report to the executive said most children were on the register for less than 12 months and during the quarter, 14 children had been de-registered after being on the register for between three and six months.
