News@www.adoption-net.co.uk This story published December 21, 2000 Last appeal for abandoned baby Social services staff in Cornwall are making one last call for the mother of the baby found in a car park in Launceston in October to come forward before he is adopted. The baby boy was eight weeks this week and staff say he continues to thrive and is receiving excellent care in his foster home. Director of social services, Nigel Druce, said: "Unfortunately, despite massive publicity, no contact has been made with the baby's mother. Plans are now well advanced for adoption and an adoptive home will be identified early in the new year. "We want to make one last attempt to ask his mother to contact us. We hope she is well and recognise the trauma she must have gone through. "Hopefully knowing the baby is happy and healthy and soon to be going to a permanent family will help. In asking her to contact us we would again stress that we are doing this solely for her and her baby's welfare. Any contact will be confidential." If anyone has any information that may help, or if the mother would like to hear directly how her son is getting on, they can phone 07968 892290 or 01872 322605 during office hours. The dark-haired baby boy weighed 9lb 1oz at his birth. He was discovered by a passer-by wrapped in a blue cot blanket and left inside a carrier bag in the multi-storey car park. Initially he was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and has since been in foster care. Mr Druce said social workers accepted that adoption may be the best plan for the boy but feel involvement by his birth mother could be vital to his happiness. He pointed out that any information about his origins, however brief, could help him to develop a sense of identity as he grows up.
