Children's home 'should close'
by www.adoption-net.co.uk staff

Fed-up householders could have sealed the fate of a controversial East Riding home for problem children.

People who live in the shadow of Brook Cottage in Driffield urged councillors to press ahead with the closure of the Social Services-run home.

Campaigners claimed, at the emotion-charged public meeting, that the home in Beckside had blighted their lives for ten years.

Householders say they have been the victims of the young residents' unruly behaviour, including allegations of abuse, assaults and criminal damage.

East Riding Council decided to consult on the closure of Brook Cottage after years of complaints.

The proposed closure of the home is part of a new initiative to increase the number of children in specialist foster care, and family support services.
