Cambridgeshire's socials services boss Liz Railton, has been appointed to a Government adoption task force to champion improvements in agencies across the country.

The task force was set up in response to Prime Minister Tony Blair's review of adoption services and the Government's commitment to improve the life chances of children in public care - including finding them new permanent families when this is the best option for them.

Cambridgeshire County Council's fostering and adoption service has one of the best records in the country for finding new homes for children in care.

Ms Railton's job, as part of the new unit, will be to help spread good practice, implement service improvements, champion for improvements and change in adoption services and act as a source of expert advice for other agencies around the country.

The task force will be accountable to Denise Platt, Chief Inspector of the Government watchdog body, the Social Services Inspectorate .

Ms Platt, said: "The members of the task force were selected because of their passion about delivering good services to children."

Ms Railton, who joined Cambridgeshire in February 1998, said she was looking forward to sharing Cambridgeshire's expertise with other social services departments.
