Man charged with sex offences
by www.adoption-net.co.uk staff

A 62-year-old man appeared in court today charged with 10 sex offences after an investigation into alleged abuse at a children's home.

Robert Amos, of Manifold Close, Waterhouses, near Leek, north Staffordshire, was granted conditional bail at Stafford Magistrates Court.

He faces three charges of indecent assault and one allegation of attempted rape on a woman between April 1987 and October 1987.

The defendant is further charged with one count of buggery and five charges of indecent assault relating to both boys and girls between 1985 and 1989.

Amos was charged by detectives investigating alleged child abuse at Riverside Children's Home in Rocester, Staffordshire.

Another man has already been charged with serious sexual offences at the home and is bailed to appear before the same court tomorrow.

The Crown Prosecution Service is considering allegations against another man who was arrested on June 8 and released on police bail, a spokesman for Staffordshire police said.

The charges follow a joint inquiry launched in June last year by Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council into allegations of abuse at the home between 1980 and 1989 when it closed.

The Staffordshire County Council-run home housed children aged between 10 and 17.
