Inquiry into child death

Child protection officials in Wales have launched an inquiry into the death of 12-year-old Emma Hall, whose father was last month charged with her murder.

The Blaenau Mynwy area child protection committee has decided that a review into the actions of agencies in this case will take place.

The committee comprises of managers from many organisations who work together to try to protect children and young people from significant harm. The Blaenau Mynwy committee covers the areas served by Monmouthshire County Council and Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.

Mr John S. Waters, the chairman of the committee has said that the review will use guidelines that are set out the National Assembly for Wales's report "Working together to safeguard children".

The results of the review will be presented to the committee, the National Assembly and the organisations who have been involved with the family.

This will enable all concerned to examine whether any lessons can be learned which may help other families in the future.

Phillip Andrew Hall, 41, is alleged to have stabbed his daughter, Emma, with a kitchen knife at their family home, in Whitelye, near Chepstow, on July 18.
